Hummingbirds 9/18

It was so lovely to see you in the classroom at back to school night last night!  If you were unable to join and would like to check in, please feel free to reach out! Also, we have some handouts for you🙂

This week we made self portraits and talked about how beautiful our different skin colors are. We read “The Colors of Us” and self selected our skin colors from a variety of skin tone construction paper.

We started our classroom jobs this week and also started our regular morning sign in’s where the children practice writing their names.  The children are beginning to make more positive social connections, and we are happy that they are enjoying their school experience. It is very important to us that your children feel excited to be at school and enjoy all of the different learning experiences that we create together. Here are some photo highlights from the week!

Our Hummingbirds year is off to a fantastic start! Your children are managing the transition to school incredibly well. We are ensuring that each child feels safe, seen, and loved every day.  When we feel a deep sense of physical and emotional safety, our nervous  systems achieve a state of balance. This allows our emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual selves to function optimally. We are establishing routines, getting to know each other, and having fun together.  We are creating a solid foundation upon which we can all thrive together. You will receive a Friday email each week with information about what has been happening in our classroom. We will be sure to include lots of pictures! Here are some photo highlights of our time together so far🙂!

It takes a lot of energy to emotionally and physically self-regulate and manage the cognitive load of moving through a whole school day. You have probably noticed how extra tired your children are at the end of the day. This exhaustion is normal, and it is also indicative of the ways in which your children are being stretched and challenged to grow in important ways.   This week we asked the children what they want to learn about in school this year. Check out the list! Our wonderful Student Teacher, Brenna, talked about the turning of the season and read the book Leaf Man. Then we made autumn wreaths with the children. We had our first meeting for worship this week in th...
